Ophthalmic Biomaterials SIG

SIG Misson Statement

The ophthalmic biomaterials (OPH) special interest group (SIG) is an integral part of the Society for Biomaterials (SFB). Our goal is to bridge the gap between "research" and "development" of applied biomaterials in ophthalmology.

The SIG offers a unique platform for interaction between academic research and corporate development. Bridge of the research between Academia and Industry Development and biocompatibility testing of materials for the augmentation and replacement of diseased ocular tissues. Development and testing of drug delivery systems to the anterior and posterior segments of the eye.

Areas of Interest include:

  • Development of new polymers and new medical devices for treating eye diseases
  • Surface modification and characterization of medical devices
  • Biocompatibility of devices
  • Drug delivery systems and technologies
